I have been doing a lot of research on has tags. Still not able to understand. When you talk about brand recognition, does the hashtag has to be the brand name. If not how ? Most of the easy and popular words are used by multiple brands. How will you build brand association against a particular hashtag ?

    • Hi Rekha. One common misconception is that a brand can “own” a hashtag. This is not the case. Remember a hashtag should not supersede the conversation–It should only enhance it. A brand can start a conversation and then invite its consumers to participate by using the hashtag. If the brand conducts a brand specific campaign or contest, it’s possible to include two hashtags: one that represents the brand and the other for the contest. I hope this helps!

I would love to see a follow up discussion on how to find the best hashtags for your target markets. I can give you one starting point:

    • Hi Mike,

Thanks for recommending TweetReach! Our free snapshot reports are fantastic for looking at the scope of different hashtags (or any other term someone might be interested in tracking).

If anyone has any questions about how they work or how best to frame their search, feel free to ask us about it on Twitter at @tweetreachapp or @UnionMetrics. Thanks again!
